The Challenge
A fast-growing UPI payments startup had a strong visual identity but zero audio presence. They needed a complete sonic identity that conveys trust, speed, and modernity. The sonic logo had to work on TV ads, app notifications, IVR hold music, and even their office lobby. It needed to be distinctive in under 2 seconds — the average time a payment confirmation sound plays.
The Approach
Conducted a brand audit and competitor analysis of leading payment apps. Workshopped with the brand team to define audio attributes: trustworthy, swift, crisp, slightly warm. Created 15 sonic logo concepts exploring different instruments and textures. Final logo: a crystalline 1.8-second signature combining a marimba hit with a subtle synthetic 'whoosh' and a resolving chord — conveying 'transaction complete, all good.' Extended this into a full brand anthem (30s) for campaigns, plus adapted it to notification sounds, hold music, IVR prompts, and video call waiting tones.
The Result
The payment confirmation sound became instantly associated with the brand — users reported 'hearing' the brand even when reading about it. Brand recall in audio-first contexts (podcast ads, radio) increased by 40%. The sonic logo was featured in a media article on Indian startup branding.
