The Challenge

The director wanted a score that feels like the land itself is speaking — earthy, raw, and deeply connected to the soil of Maharashtra. The film follows a farmer's struggle across four seasons. The music needed to be subtle enough to let the stunning cinematography breathe, yet powerful enough to carry wordless montage sequences. Budget was limited, ruling out a live orchestra.

The Approach

Spent two weeks in the edit room with the director, understanding every scene's emotional intent. Built a sonic palette from recorded field sounds (wind through crops, water in streams, temple bells), Marathi folk instruments (tuntuna, dholki, ektari), and layered ambient textures. Composed four seasonal themes that evolve throughout the film — Spring (hopeful, open), Summer (tense, dry), Monsoon (relief, renewal), Winter (reflective, bittersweet). All folk instruments recorded live; ambient layers created with granular synthesis from the field recordings.

The Result

The film premiered at MAMI Mumbai Film Festival and won Best Original Score at the Indian Independent Film Awards. Critics highlighted the score's 'organic, breathing quality' as one of the film's standout elements. The soundtrack was released on streaming platforms and gained 200K+ streams.

Vivek didn't just score a film — he gave voice to the earth. Audiences tell me they can feel the soil and rain through his music. That's the highest compliment a director can receive.
